Issue Ten – February 2024

When Aimee and I first toyed with the idea of starting a magazine, we decided to give it a two year commitment. Our goal was to reach four issues and then see what we felt like doing from there.

Now it’s year five, and we have ten fabulous issues under our belts. We’re extremely proud of this milestone, and of all the authors who’ve trusted us with their stories.

But it has been a lot of work. It’s just two of us running this thing, reading roughly 800-1000 submissions a year, maintaining the social media, putting together the ebook and website, and paying our authors out of our own savings. It’s no surprise that we’ve both been feeling the burn, and it’s been weighing especially hard on Aimee, who’s juggling multiple forthcoming writing projects on top of her international move with her family to the Netherlands.

Therefore, with issue 10, Aimee will be stepping down as co-editor of Translunar Travelers Lounge. It won’t be the same without her—for one thing, she’s in charge of coming up with our delectable menu section headers—but we had a lot of lovely people volunteer to take on some of the responsibilities, so hopefully you won’t even see a change in the posting schedule.

We have a very strong bunch of stories this month to conclude Aimee’s time here at TTL. This month, we have a torch that never stops burning, and a demigod allowed to put down his eternal burden; a city that walks, and a husband who melts; first contact on Wikipedia, and last contact very far away; a street food vendor and an undersea bounty hunter who both traffic in revenge; an assassin who attempts to fulfill a prophecy, and an army vet who finds a new way to serve; a clerk who catalogues prayers and a ghost that fails to return books; doggy day care for rambunctious hellhounds and play dates for lonely cakes.
